The WolfeDen, also written as WOLFE DEN, is a group of “frens” (of any age, but specifically dedicated and led by high school and college students) interested in learning and gaining experience in web3 (art, developing, decentralized finance, legal, etc.).

As a DAO (decentralized autonomous organization, the organization model of the WolfeDen community) contributor of the "pack," (in the art and decentralized finance sector), I was commissioned to design the logo and branding character of WolfeDen.

Tools/Skills: ideation, vector illustration, Autodesk Sketchbook Pro, Figma.

Research & Inspiration

When searching for inspiration and reference photos, I kept in mind that the primary audience of WolfeDen were motivated individuals my age (high school and college students) interested in the metaverse space. Thus, I searched for styles popular within my age group: polygonal and color block shading, bright and high-contrasting neon colors, simplistic, modern tech, etc.

I decided to go for a stylized wolf and moon pictorial mark with a limited, but high-contrasting color palette, and began iterating in the next stage.

Ideation

Concepts that I wanted to experiment with were a moon and profile of a wolf pictorial mark, and a more simplified vector rendition of a face-forward wolf head. Initially, the design featured the moon as a huge part of the logo, however as I went forward with more drafts, it became more of a secondary detail, with the primary focus being to make the wolf head the most noticeable and recognizable.

I presented both deviations (the profile wolf and the face-forward wolf) to the client, and both of us discussed and came into agreement that the face-forward wolf was best fitting. WolfeDen’s brand needed a more aggressive “cutting-edge” feel, and with its soft gradient and pastel scheme, the profile wolf design was thus eliminated.

Drafts

With a chosen logo concept, I started to narrow down the color scheme options and come up with a lettermark logo option. Towards the end of the process, the client wished for a multicolored logo, and such was created (one with the multicolor masked within the vector, and one with the multicolor featured in the background of the frame). To keep the two-tone theme, I experimented with opacities of white and settled on a final product.

Delivered Products

In the final logo package, I delivered a wordmark logo, multicolored logo, black and white logo, and multicolored background logo all in white and dark states.

Reflection

WolfeDen’s logo commission allowed me to test the limits of my vector illustration skill and capability to design a functional logo. Moreover, as part of logo, I was proud to give a face and branding identity to our emerging community.
